Architect:
Santiago Calatrava
Completion:
1992
Description:
This soaring and majestic galleria/atrium links Bay and Front Streets in downtown Toronto. As part of the much larger BCE Place, the galleria features primarily shops and restaurants under the tree-like enclosure.
The design, a competition won by Calatrava in 1987, is composed of a nave-like linear space and Heritage Square, which is literally a square in plan. While the design is reminiscent of much of Calatrava's ouevre, the space is impressive nevertheless.
