Architect:
Koning Eizenberg Architecture
Completion:
2005
Description:
Santa Monica, California-based Koning Eizenberg inserted a wonderfully-articulated glass box between two existing buildings, the Old Post Office Building and the Buhl Planetarium. With the current plan, all buildings are joined to form the Pittsburgh Children's Museum.
The angled exterior enclosure is the most impressive aspect of the design, done in collaboration with artist Ned Kahn. The fluttering translucent panels move with the wind, creating an ever-changing impression and experience for visitors, especially the children.
