Architect:

Teeple Architects

Completion:

2003

Description:

The Early Learning Centre was built to accommodate around 100 children of University of Toronto faculty and staff and is designed by Teeple Architects, a firm with a lot of day care experience. While the exterior's complex interaction of volumes is impressive, the building is designed from the inside out, stressing the internal environment and its relationship to its surroundings.

A playground on the south side features a large existing tree that the design seems to bend around. The interior spaces are organized about a central ramp, appropriate for a building used by children from infant to pre-kindergarten age.
